Эссе "Книги в моей жизни"

When I was a child I often heard the word «book». All members of my family read many books. But I didn’t like to read. I thought it was boring. The people who read a lot of books were considered to be stupid and a nerd. I hated to look at my girl-friend who sat with her head down and read, read, read…

One day I asked «Why do you read so much? What is the significance? » She has said «Everything's got a moral, if only you can find it. » Then we had a talk about why people did this or that in their life. It seemed to me she was not only pretty but she was so smart that I was so stupid by contrast to her. I wanted to excel her. That’s why I asked what kind of books she read. I was shocked when she told me about «Alice in Wonderland». She reminded me her phrase about a moral. I considered it sounded like some kind of popular quotation. «Is it possible this book has got such deep sense? » I had to read «Alice in Wonderland». Then «Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There», «The Hunting of the Snark», «What the Tortoise Said to Achilles».

Now Lewis Carroll is my favourite writer. His books help me to understand reading is not boring and people who read a lot of books are not stupid. And now I’m a fan of Lewis Carroll. Sometimes I and my girl-friend make a quotation battle. We have a good time. Books help me both to learn and to take pleasure of smart communication.
